At ParksandRead, we believe that every child deserves the opportunity to read, write, speak, and listen with confidence. Our programs are designed to:

Our Journey: From Passion to Purpose

Founded by Khutso Swafo, ParksandRead is a grassroots initiative dedicated to fostering a love for reading and improving literacy among children in township communities. Through a variety of engaging programs—such as storytelling sessions, mobile libraries, reading clubs, and literacy workshops—the organization creates safe, inspiring spaces where young minds can explore books and build essential skills. By actively involving parents, educators, and local volunteers, ParksandRead strengthens community bonds and empowers the next generation through the transformative power of reading.

Since its founding in 2019, ParksandRead has achieved the following milestones:

Due to Covid we only managed to visit one per for 6 between April 2020 and November 2021.

ParksandRead visited the State Theatre for 2 children’s productions, one in 2019 and another in 2021.
